Dr Steven de Wit, Consortium of Sola Road (in English): "We have here the first part of a bicycle road that also works as a solar panel. The Solar Team Eindhoven (STE) of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) presented the world's first solar-powered family car. "Stella" is the first "energy-positive car" with room for four people, a trunk, intuitive steering and a range of 600 kilometers (373 miles). This is the car being entered by the student team in the Cruiser class of the World Solar Challenge that starts in Australia in October 2013. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjpP_We-nN2QXlSCBZeioI0fwUG_cu1KO Other interesting Dutch electric vehicles: 1. Solar power is the world's fastest growing source of renewable energy. The panels that harness the power of the sun and convert it are usually perched on rooftops. But a town in the Netherlands has found a way to build its energy supply into the ground. Al Jazeera's technology editor Tarek Bazley reports from Krommenie in the Netherlands. It’s not in the papers but a silent revolution is moving across the world. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper than from fossil fuels. It means that progressively the choice for wind and solar energy is no longer an ethical one but an economic one. And this will speed up the transfer to renewable energy. In countries like Brazil, Australia, Chile and parts of the United States people consider renewable energy because of financial reasons. The price of solar and wind energy will continue to drop and in more countries renewable energy will occur. A surprising newcomer on the market is Morocco, where the government expects that in 2020 more than 40 percent of the energy could come from solar energy. In early April the first "Glowing Lines" section of road was unveiled on a provincial highway near Oss, in the Netherlands. It was designed by artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde, using a light-emitting paint that glows at night. It's considered a sustainable alternative for areas where there's no conventional lighting and provides drivers a frame of reference, because the lines make the road's trajectory visible. Daan Roosegaarde explained how they work: "These are "Glowing Lines", which form part of the Smart Highway project. We developed a type of paint, which charges up during the day, and glows at night. So, it works if there's enough sun, and if it's cloudy, we can supply a little bit of electricity to top them up a little. We use a solar panel so it's energy-neutral. It's functio...
The first solar-powered family car was unveiled on Wednesday by Eindhoven University, and is already on its way to the market, with its creators expecting to take to the streets by next summer. The sun's rays can hit some roads for up to 90 percent of the daylight hours, so companies in Europe and the U.S. are experimenting with building solar panels along or above roads. But are such projects worth the cost? In France one company is hoping to distinguish itself—and reduce costs—with solar panels that are laid directly on the pavement. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. The world's first public solar cycle lane has opened in the Netherlands as part of a pilot scheme. It is designed to capture the energy from the sun and transform it into electricity. During the pilot, the generated energy will be supplied to the electricity grid, just like most solar panels on rooftops. It is expected that the pilot cycle path of approximately 100m (330 ft) will generate as much electricity as is used by two to three average households annually. Anna Holligan visited the cycle path north of Amsterdam for a closer look.
stop motion movie of placement of solar panels on one of the roofs of the Xpositron Incubator complex. What you see is the placement of roughly one third of the total amount of 403 panels. We generate enough energy on a yearly basis to provide 94% of what is needed by 52 companies - 80.000 kWh/year, about 95 kWp total installed power. We are - at the moment, nov. 2010 - the largest solar energy plant in Amsterdam, and probably even the province of Noord-Holland.
The Netherlands has embarked on a remarkable experiment, setting up the world’s first ever solar-powered road. What that means is that they’ve made a road surface that is transparent so the light goes through it and is also robust enough for people to drive over it. The 70-meter stretch turns sunlight into electricity, which ends up powering street lights and even houses. EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS — The Netherland’s Eindhoven University of Technology is developing solar panels that could be used to accomplish goals beyond simply electricity generation, such as acting as noise barriers along highways, Popular Mechanics reports. A practical test using the new technology is being run along the Netherland’s A2 highway, one of the nation’s busiest, near the city of Den Bosch. Two sets of sound barriers with incorporated LSCs, or “luminescent solar concentrators”, will be placed alongside the highway until early summer of 2016, as a full year of testing is crucial in order to verify the durability and performance of the panels under all weather conditions. The LSCs can absorb sunlight by using transparent dyed plastic sheets, which then emit and direct concen...

This is the first solar cycle path in the world. It was inaugurated in November 2014 in Netherlands. Together with my friend Ana, we tracked the location of the solar road. it covers part of the annual electricity demand of three of the houses nearby (approx. 3000 kWh) This development has shown the potential of photovoltaics in the world and demonstrates that in future there will no restriction for solar installations and thus green electricity generation. A 100% RE future is coming close.
The Dutch are way ahead of most of us when it comes to putting the bicycle at the heart of transport planning, but now they are looking at ways for green transport to produce energy, too. Solaroad is the world's first cycle path fitted with embedded solar panels, providing electricity without taking up new land, even if roof panels are more efficient. "This is not economically feasible but we will make it so. We are working on it very hard and have put in five years already, and we will contin… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2014/11/13/groundbreaker-or-gimmick-dutch-test-solar-power-generating-cyclepath What are the top stories today?
